BEHIND THE LENS

NEW YORK CITY–BASED PHOTOGRAPHER SPECIALIZING IN NARRATIVE STILLS, EDITORIAL PORTRAITS, HEADSHOTS, FASHION & LIVE PERFORMANCE

Julie Hoffman is a New York City–based photographer specializing in narrative stills, editorial portraiture, theatrical headshots, fashion and print, and live performance imagery.

Her work spans film and television productions, cast galleries, promotional stills, BTS coverage, and dynamic visual storytelling for creatives and productions.

Before becoming a full-time photographer, Julie worked in broadcast television as a Technical Director for ABC’s Los Angeles studios, supporting major prime-time shows and live events. She began her career at ABC News in New York City, where she was responsible for ENG crews and KU satellite truck operations during daily and breaking news coverage. This background gives her a rare dual perspective — understanding both the creative and technical demands of production environments.

Julie photographs theatrical and on-camera headshots for actors of all ages nationwide and holds a California Child Performer Services Permit for working with young talent. She also shoots editorial, fashion, and print, collaborating with designers, stylists, and performers to create expressive, character-driven imagery.

In addition to her narrative and portrait work, Julie is an experienced live-performance photographer, capturing concerts, tours, and events with a high-energy, editorial approach.

A member of IATSE Local 600, Julie brings a calm, professional presence to set and creates cinematic, story-driven images designed for marketing, publicity, and editorial use. Whether shooting a narrative scene, an actor portrait, a print look, or a live show, she focuses on authentic emotion and strong visual storytelling.
